CRN names CRN Hungary as the member of the year
The Congress Rental Network (CRN) has named CRN Hungary as the member of year for 2011.
The CRN member of the year is announced each year at the AGM, which this year was held in Chile. The member of the year was chosen by members who participated in an online survey. Members were asked to rate the other companies within the network on communication, quality of service, ethics in business and business leads. Being chosen as member of the year recognises CRN Hungary as the member who has done its utmost to work with other organisations within the CRN, whilst exceeding the expectations of its clients and partners. The points accumulated by PC Podimatas SA from Greece ranked them in second place with Dorier from Switzerland achieving the third best overall score.
New business kick starts 2012 at LSO St Luke’s
City venue continues to grow in popularity.
LSO St Luke’s had a bumper start to the New Year with seven events being confirmed in the first week of January. The bookings encompass a variety of events including a filming session, a recording, a lecture, a dinner dance, an exhibition, rehearsals and two conferences.
Victoria Steinitz, sales and events manager at LSO St Luke’s, says: “The New Year has started very well for LSO St Luke’s. We’re delighted with the number of new bookings we’ve already taken. The diversity of events highlights the flexibility of the Jerwood Hall. Our spaces can be used for a variety of events and can be set up to suit a client’s requirements. Winning new business like this is increasing our occupancy levels, and we’re positive that our success will continue throughout the year.”
LSO St Luke’s extends Soaring Worldwide contract
Following a successful six month campaign, LSO St Luke’s has taken the decision to extend its partnership with Soaring Worldwide.
The city-based venue – an 18th century Grade 1 listed Hawksmoor Church – has grown in popularity and seen bookings increase significantly during the time it has worked with Soaring Worldwide. The venue plays host to a diverse selection of concerts and music workshops alongside London Symphony Orchestra rehearsals. The venue’s biggest revenue increase has come from a wide variety of corporate and private events, including awards ceremonies, filming and fashion shows.
Kyoto improves offering with new event venue
Kyoto, Japan is continuing to grow its offering to the conference, events and incentives market with the launch of a new venue. The Fortune Garden, Kyoto, is located in the centre of the city and will open in early 2012.
The building dates back to 1927 and was designed by Takeda Goichi, who played a role in the development of modern Japanese architecture. The Fortune Garden was built for one of Kyoto’s global leaders Shimadzu who used the venue as its headquarters until 1986.
HIC’s new halls open with a winter wonderland.
Premier Decorations is the first company to use HIC’s new space.
The first exhibition to use Harrogate International Centre’s (HIC’s) new halls – the Harrogate Christmas and Gift Fair – has been a great success. The completion of the redevelopment project provides event organisers with a perfect link to the existing facilities and the event allowed Premier Decorations to create a winter wonderland when it took over Hall H for the duration of the show.
Premier Decorations is one of the UK’s leading importers of Christmas decorations supplying retailers across the country. It has been exhibiting at the Christmas and Gift Fair for 25 years.
Parkway Newbury secures environmental certification
Parkway, Newbury, a new shopping and residential development in the heart of the West Berkshire town, has secured certification to ISO 14001:2004, the internationally recognised environment management standard. The standard was awarded by Certification International – a UKAS accredited organisation providing assessment, analysis and certification services to companies of all sizes across a wide range of standards.
Parkway is a 475,000 sq ft mixed-use development owned by Standard Life Investments and is managed by Jones Lang LaSalle. The certification demonstrates its commitment to reducing its environmental impact. Jones Lang LaSalle manages many retail centres across the UK, and Parkway is just one of many to achieve ISO 14001 certification. The company is working with Certification International to roll out environmental certification across a number of other sites.
Church House Conference Centre strengthens marketing team
Church House Conference Centre makes strategic appointment to strengthen its marketing capability.
Church House Conference Centre has appointed Clare Hodgkinson to the newly created role of marketing executive as it looks to increase its marketing potential.
Clare, who graduated from Royal Holloway University with a BSc in Management with Marketing, joined the team in January, 2012. She previously completed a marketing internship with Youth Connections Outdoors Hertfordshire. In her new role at Church House Conference Centre, Clare will be involved in all marketing activities but particularly in increasing the centre’s social media presence.
J-Team and Granvia Hotel to promote Kyoto at AIME
Kyoto, one of Japan’s most popular business destinations, will be represented at the Asia-Pacific Incentives and Meetings Expo (AIME) by the J Team and the Hotel Granvia.
The J Team – one of Japan’s most original and creative DMCs – and the Hotel Granvia will work in partnership at the event in Melbourne (February 21-22) to showcase Kyoto’s superb mix of heritage and culture as well as the variety of conference venues, hotels and restaurants.

Health and safety a high priority, says Certification International
Certification International, a leader in the field of assessment and certification services to internationally recognised standards, says figures from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE)* show companies are taking health and safety seriously.
Certification International believes the ongoing falling trend in the number of people being injured or made unwell in the work place is due to organisations implementing occupational health and safety management systems and gaining certification to OHSAS 18001:2007 – a standard designed to clarify an organisation’s impact on health and safety issues.
